Púca and STEAM!
Shape shifters, sound shifters….strings, drums, hums and feet!
Dave Firestine and Claire Zucker are the Tucson-based duo, Púca! Bringing a spontaneous collection of songs and tunes from the Irish and Celtic traditions, when Púca hits the stage, energetic mandolin and bouzouki interplays with Irish drumming, and songs range from hauntingly beautiful to just plain funny!
But that’s not all…. At this year’s Tucson Celtic Festival, they are joined by Canadian musician’s Alice Boyle on fiddle and Robert Rosenberg on guitar and banjo. Together, these four comprise the touring band called STEAM! Flying reels, slinky jigs, and dynamic harmonies… STEAM brings an imaginative freshness to their playing that is unparalleled. Alice is known for her soaring fiddle style and rich deep harmonies, which balance against Dave's precise driving style, spiked with ecletic twists and sycopation. Robert rocks the rhythm guitar and then pounces on a flatpicked lead or banjo tune. Claire's backs the tunes with her rich, dynamic bodhrán style, and lends her lyrical authentic Irish singing to the band's song repertoire.
Dave and Claire have four award winning CDs with Irish band, Round the House. Veteran performers, both have won several Tucson Area Musician’s awards (Tammies) including Claire for “Best Female Vocalist” and Dave for “Best String Player” in 2007. Alice leads her own band in London, Ontario called Les Canards Sinestres, which also features Robert on guitar. Robert has performed extensively with numerous Colorado bands and has recorded several cds as well.
