The Ancient Order of Hibernians
'Workin
for Tips at the Village Pub'
Those charming, handsome, hard working
gentlemen you encounter as you step up to purchase your favorite
libations at the Village Pub are part of a unique and highly
charitable organization that traces it’s origins back over 340
years. The Ancient Order of
Hibernians (AOH) in America is a Catholic, Irish-American fraternal
organization founded in
New
York City
in 1836. The Order can trace its roots to an organization formed in
Ireland in 1565 to protect Catholic priests and
followers during the rule of
England’s King Henry VIII. The wave
of Irish immigrants in the late 1840’s fleeing The Great Hunger, An
Gorta Mor, prompted a growth of social societies in the U. S., the
largest of which was, and continues to be, the Ancient Order of
Hibernians. Newcomers can meet members with common interests in
Irish heritage and culture in the social atmosphere of the
Irish-American community reflected in our motto, “Friendship, Unity,
and Christian Charity”.
The Hugo O’Connor Division of AOH, established
locally in 1995, was the first in
Arizona.
An Irish-American fraternal organization, our fun and
friendly focus is on various fundraising activities for charities
with an emphasis on the needs of children. Past charities include
the Blake Foundation, UMC Children’s Oncology Ward, Kane Foundation,
Special Olympics, Desert Survivors,
Mountain View
High School, Merilac
Lodge, San Miguel Catholic High School, and several emergency needs
of local families. Please remember all tips collected during the
Tucson Celtic Festival and all our other fundraisers go directly to
charities. For information contact Paul Craven at 444-4601 or any
AOH member. Erin

Tucson Community Food Bank
Giving in our own community is important to the
Tucson Celtic Festival Association. Our support of The Tucson
Community Food Bank represents the most elemental form of community
sustenance and support that we can offer.
The whole idea of Clan and
family was founded on sticking together through thick and thin,
helping each other through famine, war and the great clearings. We
value our ancestors and history, supporting the food bank is our way
of supporting our local family.
We hope you will support the Tucson Celtic Festival
Association’s efforts by supporting the
Tucson Community Food Bank.
BU17
Nike Rush Soccer Team,
coached by Ruben Astigarraga Support of Youth
Athletics in Pima County is another way that the Tucson Celtic
Festival Association can give back to the community. During the
Festival the non-alcohol beverage booths (east & west fields and
near the Village Pub) are being manned by the players and parents of
the BU17 Nike Rush Soccer Team. Rush Soccer is committed to
providing an unparalleled soccer experience for all who have
interest in the game of soccer. The Rush promotes the spirit of
sportsmanship, the electricity of competition and the importance of
pure enjoyment. The Rush accepts the responsibilities of teaching
life lessons to our athletes to further their development inside the
game and out. Your support of this fundraising opportunity at the
Tucson Celtic Festival & Scottish Highland Games will enable BU17
Nike Rush to provide financial hardship scholarships to deserving
players and help supplement the costs for tournaments and travel. As
you walk around and enjoy the festival, support youth athletics, buy
a beverage and stay hydrated!
